Our Favorite Things to DoOur wine list features many selections from small, family-owned wineries. On your way here, you may want to visit some. If you are taking HWY 128 into the area, you will pass Yorkville Cellars, Navarro, Greenwood Ridge, Husch, and Handley. If you are coming up Hwy 101 to Hwy 20, you may want to stop in Hopland at the tasting room of McDowell Valley Vineyards, which makes some outstanding Rhone-varietal wines. We are pleased to have been able to add the wine of another small, premium producer in Sonoma recently, the 1998 Merry Edwards Russian River Valley pinot noir. When you get here, two of the most popular attractions in Fort Bragg are the
Skunk Train and the Mendocino Coast Botanical Gardens. For canoe and kayak rentals, to paddle up the Noyo River or out into the ocean, try Noyo Pacific Outfitters. To see where your local fish comes from firsthand, get suited up at our favorite dive shop, Sub-Surface Progression. For light fare and a good selection of wine and beer, try the Headlands Coffee House on Laurel Street, a couple of blocks east of the Skunk Train depot. Sound-system jazz during the day, live music at night, and the best coffee in town. Headlands features Big River coffee, and sells the special organic French roast Rendezvous blend by the bag. If we happen to be fully booked, another nearby B&B we like to recommend is the Weller House. In Mendocino, try the Joshua Grindle Inn or the Brewery Gulch Inn. Web sites which offer additional information on what to do in the area include the Mendocino Coast Chamber of Commerce, the Fort Bragg Promotional Committee, and the Mendocino County Promotional Alliance. For a dazzling array of Mendocino Coast activities (about 385,000 entries at last count) try Google and MendocinoFun.com. |
