Winemaker’s Dinner

Cole Bailey Vineyards
Bob Anderson, Proprietor

Saturday, November 7, 2009
6:30 P.M.

The Rendezvous Inn & Restaurant in Fort Bragg invites you to a winemaker's dinner hosted by micro-producer Cole Bailey Vineyards' proprietor Bob Anderson. Cole Bailey is located in Redwood Valley and produces Sauvignon blanc, Cabernet sauvignon, and Syrah, under the "Sesquipedalian" moniker. Both the Cabernet sauvignon and the Syrah are estate-grown, coming from a steep, terraced hillside that is also planted to the other traditional Bordeaux varietals as well. Cole Bailey's Sauvignon blanc is sourced from the Sanford Ranch, a vineyard located in Talmage, just east of Ukiah.

Of his wines, Bob Anderson writes, "from the first sip it’s clear that [our] Cabernet, Syrah and Sauvignon Blanc 'Sesquipedalian' are mouthfuls. Like a character from a Faulkner novel, they come right at you, powerfully forging ahead full-throttle, stunning reflections of their respective vineyards' terroir.

Now, sesquipedalian may be a tough word, but think about it... you've seen the sesquicentennial California license plates... sesqui-centennial (one and a half times a hundred = 150 years)... then, "ped"-- pedestrian, et cetera -- having to do with feet. Literally translated, sesquipedalian refers to something a foot and a half long. In a literary sense, according to Cole Bailey's website:
"Ses•qui•pe•da•li•an - a sophistical rhetorician inebriated with the exuberance of his own verbosity. In other words, a poser who uses fancy-pants words when simple ones would do."
